"Most Popular" Milly was just that
during our KP years. And, she's still is as
bubbly-bouncy-smiley as ever. Milly didn't have to work
at being popular. What I mean by that is she's the
genuine article -- There is nothing phony about Milly.
Her fondest memories of her KP days are sharing good
times with her best-ever friend, Sandy Majus. Milly
remembers having fun at the Chicago Park District Kelvyn
Park field house playing volleyball; hanging out at Pines
BBQ on Diversey; vacations at Camp Lake, Wisconsin with
her Cinas club sisters; and double dating with Sandy
Majus and Charlie Lorenz. And, she'll never forget
cheerleading in the snow. Milly really enjoyed high
school with her classmates and friends. Milly says, "They
all were wonderful!" Milly loves to garden, and she's a
Master Gardner. She likes to cook great meals, and she
enjoys bowling; volunteering with the Lioness; fishing
when she can find the time; and trying her luck at the
casinos. And, Milly enjoys a good Martini! She attended
Ryerson Elementary School before transferring to Barry
where she graduated in 1954. After graduation it was on
to Kelvyn Park. She was one of the 12 dancing princesses
in our senior class play -- She even remembers the name
of her character -- Ezmerelda! Her favorite teachers were
Mrs. Bergstrom, her division teacher, and Mr. Higgins.
Milly says, "We were so lucky to have good teachers who
cared about us." Milly must have a difficult time saying
anything bad about anybody, because when asked who her
least favorite teacher was she said, "They were all
wonderful teachers, but honestly, I would have to say Mr.
Cady." (It's okay, Milly. I don't think anyone liked Mr.
Cady!) Milly served on the June class 10th reunion
committee, the June class 25th reunion committee, and she
now proudly serves on the January/June 50th reunion
committee. She is looking forward to seeing everyone
again this October at our reunion. Milly lives in
Minocqua, Wisconsin with her second husband, Tom
Patenaude. Milly never thought she'd find happiness again
after her first husband was so tragically killed almost
16 years ago, but she did. Milly and Tom Patenaude were
married just a little over a year ago. Milly has three
children by her first marriage, Karen, Michael, and Anne,
and all three are on the Chicago Police force. Milly has
2 grandchildren.
